On Residencia Lourdes we focused our efforts in the attention of people of the third age who suffer of Alzheimer and/or Senile Dementia, next we make a brief description of these evils: What is the Disease of Alzheimer? The disease of Alzheimer produces a diminution of the intellectual functions the sufficiently serious thing like interfering with the capacity to make activities of the daily life. It is commonest of the dementias. Scientifically, it is defined as so. The disease of Alzheimer is progressive, degenerative of the brain and causes conduct and thought, memory deterioration. The person who suffers it can experience or feel confusion, disorientation in time and space, changes in the personality and of conduct, alterations in the judgment, difficulty to find words; to finalize ideas or thoughts and to follow instructions. Finally it incapacitates to who suffers it to take care of of itself. What is the SENILE DEMENTIA? We defined the senile dementia like an organic mental syndrome that is characterized by a deterioration of the memory short and long term, associated to upheavals of the abstract thought, superior judgment, cortical functions and modifications of the personality. All these alterations are the sufficiently serious thing like interfering significantly in the activities of relation, labor or social. The age of beginning of the senile dementia is after the 65 years, although another dementia of presenile beginning exists.
